Pump up the Volume (Music Part 1)

Perhaps it is because we were made to worship; perhaps it is because we are made in God's image, perhaps it is because our creator likes to hear music so much, we are compelled to sing. Regardless, we love music!

Watching the talent shows on TV with American Idol, Rock Star, and all those other shows … American’s are fascinated with music and the effect it has on the soul. Take a ride on a mass transit system and count the Ipods or other MP3 players, the new cell phones with the capability ot stream music to you anywhere at any time....

As a Christian you shouldn’t be surprised at all. You remember the childhood story of David singing to his sheep, then taking these songs to his King and the changes the simple vibrations (light is vibrational as well as sound is vibrational, humm back to that New Age rabbit trail…) of the harp and voice…

Traveling to Chicago the next few days I will get plenty of time to listen to my MP3 player full of great and not so great songs I have loaded up. Some of my favorite songs are modern Christian hymns and worship songs. I have taken a lot of criticism for my choice in music over the years, to say the least I am well rounded in musical style.

Once of my current songs that is on my Favorite list on my MP3 player is a song sung by a Christian group called Casting Crowns. I guess I like their style and I really like the lyrics of their songs.

What If His People Prayed

What if the armies of the Lord
Picked up and dusted off their swords
Vowed to set the captive free
And not let Satan have one more

What if the Church, for heaven's sake
Finally stepped up to the plate
Took a stand upon God's promise
And stormed hell's rusty gates

Chorus I:
What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face, yeah
And turn from their old ways

And what would happen if we prayed
For those raised up to lead the way
Then maybe kids in school could pray
And unborn children see light of day

What if the life that we pursue
Came from a hunger for the truth
What if the family turned to Jesus
Stopped asking Oprah what to do

Chorus I:
What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face
And turn from their own way

Chorus II:

He said that He would hear
His promise has been made
He'll answer loud and clear,
If only we would pray

Bridge:
If My people call by My name
If they'll humble themselves and pray
If My people call by My name
If they'll humble themselves and pray

Choruses:
What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face,
And turn from their old ways
He said that He would hear
His promise has been made
He'll answer loud and clear
If only we would pray

NOTE: I used to worry about the way CCM and Christian Praise/Rock repeated lyrics all the time, then one day I opened my hymnbook again and started looking for “good” songs that had the same traits, there are tons. Food for thought.
